11/09/11:      As we prepare for the 2012 season each player has been given a set of "Old Country Lottery Raffle Tickets".  Baseball just like all other athletic programs in the school district will be under a very tight budget for 2012.  We will be adopting a different fund raising program this season where we will ask the players to participate and offset some costs.  This will involve a second set of tickets being issued in the spring.  I would like to see each player be responsible for at least 2 sets, one now and one in the spring.  This will give the players access to equipment and supplies that we have charged for in the past.  If a player sells 5 books - he will max out his Team Gear portion and can also utilize this to get parents Team Gear.  Click Here to see what is available for this 2012 Fund Raising Program.  Again Each player has an initial book that is due back on December 7, 2011 ( if turned in by 12/7/2011, Player will receive 15 free numbers for lottery 12/29/2011 ) , Click Here for OC Lottery Payout Rules ( All Tickets not returned and paid for by 12/29/2001 @ 6PM will become property of OCHS Baseball ).  Thanks - Coach Lang

09/18/11:      All of us were disappointed with the final score yesterday but, the bigger picture here shows what transpired.  This was a very good fall baseball season, for a very good nucleus of players.  Yesterday in my opinion should have netted us a 4-1 win, it did not so we move on.  I have contacted all the coaches in the fall league and we will continue to play as long as the weather permits.  Warren was the first to reply.  So I will let everyone know what we are doing.  Next up is the Parade Thursday Night for Homecoming.

09/17/11:     Pitching, Hitting, Good Defense and a great tune up for tomorrows playoff game in Erie.  Tough to lose Jackson McFall in his first start but what a display, A great Diving catch for the 3rd out of the inning with runners in scoring position and then rolls over his arm and breaks his wrist - but as everyone got there - THE BALL was in his glove and glove on his hand.  What a great play.

09/13/11:     Pitching, Hitting, Good Defense and a "W" - That's a good day at the Ball Yard !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

09/11/11:     A pitching dual started the day with their pitcher striking out 8 and Tevin Striking out 7 in 3 innings - Then we got the lightning and off to Pizza Hut for some fun and food.  Need Forms back for Lancaster Thursday for ELITE TOURNAMENT PARENTS FORM Details

09/8/11:     Tough 3-2 Loss to a good Saegertown Team, Andrew Williams hits a HR in loss - next up Union City

09/6/11:     Again and worth repeating over and over, Our pitching carried the day, Tevin and Ben were very good.  We added a new piece to the puzzle the come from behind win against a good team - Great Job especially the 3 runs in the 7th and nailing down the bottom of the 7th.

09/3/11:     Again, Our pitching carried the day, Tevin, Ben and Austin were good.  A lapse for 4 outs from Bottom of 4th thru 5th cost us 7 runs.  A good effort against a solid program and a good team.

08/30/11:     A scheduling glitch gave us no BP - and it showed .  Our pitching carried the day, Tevin and Austin were tremendous keeping it close and 2 calls in the 7th on a foul ball and a tag at home kept us from tying the game.  Another solid effort for the Oilers, off to Saegertown Thursday.

08/28/11:     Oilers split DH with Kingville,  a great effort by all 12 1/2 great innings - we were a little sloppy, and it cost us game 2.  It was a good day of baseball - see everyone Tuesday night at home vs. NW/General McLane.

08/22/11:     Oilers split opening DH with Reynolds, should have taken both but a great effort by all.   We are on the right track.

08/17/11:     Oilers are 8th team entered in Elite Fall Classic Tournament - Go to schedule for details.

08/15/11:     First game with NW/General McLane is cancelled and will be rescheduled.

08/10/11:    2011 Fall Baseball Schedule is up-

5/26/10:   This season was truly a learning experience for me.  I am very thankful for the last the last 9 games we played.  The record can only partially show the growth these young men have had.  The real truth is that they started to BELIEVE in what they could accomplish.  A good win today but, it was the consistent way we have played over the last 3 weeks that matters.  I would like to thank Tim Staub, without his help and dedication to this program this would be impossible.  I would like to thank Bob Rupert - he is always there with exactly what is needed.  I would like to thank Adam and the entire JV staff: Robb, Doug and Pat for their countless hours and hard work.  I would like to thank all the players for continuing to work hard.  I want to than Alex and Nick as seniors for giving us leadership and sticking with the program.  Looking ahead, the baseball program has taken a giant step in the right direction.  Thank you the parents and fans - the future is very bright -- Take a breath, summer baseball is here, and there are only 6 months until the next Oiler Practice.    - CLICK HERE for Recap of Cranberry Final Game,

5/25/10:   Make that 3 great efforts - and a win at home vs. Union City.  We have now put together 5 straight good games and can finish the season right on Wednesday and cap of Senior Day vs. Cranberry. - CLICK HERE for Recap of Union City,  Pictures from the game courtesy of Shelly Bearer

5/24/10:   Back to Back great efforts - a win at Slippery Rock and a 2-0 loss to an 18-1 District Champ at Corry, Show how good this team could have been.  We have put together 4 straight good games and need a strong finish beginig today with Union City. - CLICK HERE for Recap of Corry. - CLICK HERE for Recap of Slippery Rock.

5/19/10:   A great effort, probably our most complete team performance of the year against a good Sharon team.  Steve with a 4 hits, Shane and Lucas added a couple - Nicks blast in the 1st inning put us in the lead, and Tim's 3rd hit of the day a 2 run HR tied the score. Good pitching from Josh, Matt, Brennan and Alex fell just sort of a complete comeback win.  Next up will be the Slippery Rock rematch. .  - CLICK HERE for Recap.

5/14/10:   A good effort against a very good Grove City team.  Steve with a couple of hits and good pitching from Bryan and Alex.  Next up will be the Slippery Rock rematch. Pictures from the game courtesy of Shelly Bearer    - CLICK HERE for Recap.  - CLICK HERE for Recap.

5/12/10:   A very tough game to let slip away, despite some terrific individual efforts: Matt and Steve to name a couple.  We continue to leave too many on base, twice stranding the bases loaded and 3 times leaving on 2.  The fact we overcame a couple costly errors to have a shot in the 7th, speaks to the fact we did not give up and this one goes into that category of another should have won one - Game today at Corry. - CLICK HERE for Recap.

5/5/10:   The Oiler's showed a flat effort vs. Commodore Perry.  Wednesday home vs. Grove City at 4PM.   Oil City places 4 players in leaders for District 10 ( Lucas 7th avg, Nick 37th avg, Steve 2nd Triples and Josh 22nd era)  CLICK HERE - for Erie Times Stats as of 5/5/2010.

5/3/10:   A good effort that fell short, a great job by Matt and Lucas.  No time to dwell on this - we need to push a couple of these into the W column.  Left too many on base and gave too many extra outs.  Tomorrow Commodore Perry here at 4PM.   - CLICK HERE for Recap.

5/3/10:   A very flat performance leaves us with our second consecutive shut out.  Despite good pitching we allowed some bad baseball to creep back into the game and then strand 11 runners - not the recipe for a win.  Today each player Varsity and JV can sign up for our Cross Creek Baseball Banquet.  It will be held on Thursday May 27 ( 6:30 - 9:00 PM ) - CLICK HERE to Register it needs to be filled in and submitted by Friday this week so that we can turn in a count.  Players are at no cost - parents and guest are $20.00 per.  It will be a very nice night - with good food and awards.  - CLICK HERE for Recap.

4/30/10:   One day after what  I view as our best defensive and pitched ball game of the season, we had a great practice and the coaching staff is looking at this as a turning point in the season.  We stared a very good team in the eye and blinked, it was all they needed.  We stood toe-to-toe with  Cathedral Prep 14-1 and should have been 0-0 going into 7th.  The 7-0 loss in the paper was nothing near what that game was.  Matt Williams threw a great ballgame and deserved a win, he picked the team up and allowed great defense to put us in a good position.  If you leave a good team a small opening they will beat you, and that is what happened.  Next Game is Monday at Meadville.    Pictures from the game courtesy of Shelly Bearer   - CLICK HERE for Recap.

4/28/10:   A good game by the Oiler's that went south on the HR Ball.  3 well placed drives turn a good defensive effort and effective pitching from a 2-1 ballgame to a 8-1 loss.  We have gone thru all 5 Region opponents and can compete with all, We are looking forward to the second half of the season.    - CLICK HERE for Recap.

4/23/10:   An extremely hard loss for all of us: Coaches, Fans and especially the Players.  We were by far the better team and once again allowed the outcome to go the other way.  We welcomed back Lex who went 4-4 and made a couple of great plays - the double play was spectacular.  Josh pitched a good game and again we deserved a better fate.  We do play this team again, if anything happens the rest of this year - IT WILL BE A WIN against SLIPPERY ROCK - That is a Promise.    Pictures from the game courtesy of Shelly Bearer  - CLICK HERE for Recap.

4/21/10:   When do you have enough runs? Wow! 17-15, What a hitting display by the Oiler's and the 5 game drought is broken.  The list of hitters was the entire lineup - Nick (3 hits), Blake and Steve with triples, Kyle and Tim Staub (2 hits) and Tim Byham (3 hits) with Doubles and Lucas added 2 hits.  Our pitching was a team effort: Steve, Brian, Matt and Closed out by Alex. Next game Home Friday vs. Slippery Rock Pictures from the game courtesy of Shelly Bearer - CLICK HERE for Recap. Derrick Article:  Click Here

4/19/10:   This one needs put behind us, we are finding it easy to return to many old habits.  We have lost to 3 Section Opponents and should of been in all 3 games.  Lets hope that some games at home this week will reverse our play.  We have been giving teams far to many outs, on routine plays.  We are fighting not only the other team - but we are also fighting ourselves.  We are a much better team than what we are showing.  CLICK HERE for Recap.

4/18/10:   A great night:  Good Food, a nice crowd, and a lot of Fun was had by all at the Western Night "Diamonds and Spurs" Fundraiser Dinner. The Entire Baseball Team - Coaches and Players, thank you for your support.  As soon as we get some pictures in they will be posted - send them in if you have some.  The Varsity and JV will both be back in action Monday at Grove City.  We will also finally have some home games this week (Wednesday and Friday).  Special Thanks to:

4/16/10:   A good start again to the game and a good effort from the boys, but when playing a team like Warren you need to execute better.  We allowed to many outs to get away from us - give good teams extra outs and you will pay for it.  Some good performances from Lucas Steve and Brennan.  Next game Saturday at 11AM at Titusville.  Pictures from the game courtesy of Shelly Bearer -  CLICK HERE for Recap.

4/14/10:   A good start to the game put us in a position to finally take a giant step forward with the baseball program, but instead WE as a team decided to revisit baseball as it has been played here.  I am the manager of this and will take full responsibility for what spectators and fans had the opportunity viewing as an excuse for baseball.  It was my expectation that by putting the best athlete or talent in a position you would get the best baseball from our 2 teams.  I was wrong in that assumption.  There are pieces of the puzzle that are missing: HEART, Desire, and Effort - there are a few that showed it yesterday, it was visible to all that were there.  From this point forward, there will be some things that will happen.  We will most likely lose players who can not Commit to play with these components, and we may lose ballgames because the Talent level falls - BUT, Baseball will be played the way this game was meant to be played.  We made some giant steps forward in our first 2 exhibition games and then our 8 inning lose to Strong Vincent.  Even the come back vs. Meadville showed signs of life within the group.  We may lose again but it will not be in that manner - This team could easily be 3-0 ( 5-0 total record). The display yesterday at Commodore Perry is Absolutely Unexcitable -  I apologize from the bottom of my heart for that performance - Coach Lang.  Pictures from the game courtesy of Shelly Bearer - CLICK HERE for Recap.

4/13/10:   A very tough start put us in the hole early.  Down 10-2,and 12-3 is a pretty steep climb.  To the Oiler's credit we stood and fought back to make it 12-9.  Big hits by Josh, Jeff, Nick, Alex and Steve who added a HR.  Alex was our player of the game with some great hitting and good pitching.  Next Games are Tuesday for both teams at 3PM at Commodore Perry.   Pictures from the game courtesy of Shelly Bearer - CLICK HERE for Recap.

4/11/10:   A great effort by both the Varsity and the JV.  The varsity dropped the first game by 1 run in 8 innings to a Strong Vincent team that had some very good pitching - CLICK HERE for Recap.  Their pitched fresh off a no-hitter held us at bay for three innings and then we came alive to tie the game.  Josh Stover our player of the game pitched 7 strong innings and gave up no earned runs.  We opened the game giving up a couple of unearned runs - but from that point forward were very solid.  Nick Gammelo and Lucas McVay, had 2 hits apiece and Lucas made 2 great catches in CF.  Bryan Bearer's clutch 2 RBI single knotted the contest at 3-3 in the 6th.  Blake Hadley caught a fly ball and threw out the possible game winner in the 7th to force extra innings.  Strong Vincent won it in the bottom of the 8th.  The JV ran out to 8-1 lead with great pitching from Tyler Scwab and 3 hits by Larry Winger.  Strong Vincent fought back with the help of a couple of errors to close the 4th inning 1 run down.  they wound up winning the contest 13-8, but we were very pleased with the JV's performance.  Next Games are Monday for both teams home at 4PM vs. Meadville

4/7/10:   Oil City Weekly Newsletter - Volume 1 is out, CLICK HERE to View.  Away game tomorrow at Titusville, Friday Home vs. Meadville and Saturday at Erie Strong Vincent.

4/3/10:   A week of great weather - and a very good outing for our second scrimmage with Rocky Grove.  The Varsity game was a 10-6 win, we saw some pretty good pitching, some good defense two Double Plays, and a very good 7th inning where the bats came alive - CLICK HERE for ReCap..  We are ready to start the regular season with three games this week.  We will be at Titusville Thursday, host Meadville on  Friday and travel to Erie Saturday to play Strong Vincent.  We have worked very hard and I am sure everyone is looking forward to getting everything rolling - I know I am.

3/30/10:   Statistics have been linked - they are now available.

3/22/10:   After an unexpected week of great weather - we wrapped up Saturday with our first scrimmage with VC.  From the Varsity game a 6-4 win, we saw some pretty good pitching for our first outing.  Five pitchers:  Matt Williams, Brennan McMahan, Lex Fogle, Steve McCulley and Brian Bearer; each pitched an inning.  Blake Hadley scored twice - Steve McCulley Kyle Lindey, Jeff Zimonski, and Brian Bearer scored once.  Lucas McVay had double, a couple RBI's and threw out a runner from CF for the 2nd day in a row.  We saw a lot of good in our first outing - CLICK HERE for ReCap.  The JV were only able to get in 3 innings and stayed on to play intersquad innings.  We have some work to get in over the next 2 weeks to prepare for the 2nd scrimmage vs. Rocky Grove. We had very nice crowd that watched our game.
